You cannot totally stop dog barking because this is the nature of being a dog. But you must keep barking under
control so that it will not destroy the neighborhood’s peace. To stop dog barking, there are certain things that we
should keep in mind. But first off, to be able to stop dog barking, we must know the underlying cause of the
barking.
Usually dogs that are socially isolated or those who have been left alone in confinement for quite a long time,
have a lot of energy. So if your dog is left alone in the house the whole day, he might just take up barking as a
hobby. Barking may mean that a dog is bored. When dogs start barking, they will continue to do so because they are
having fun.
Stop Dog Barking
To stop dog barking, you must understand that your dog might be lonely, bored, frustrated or frightened. These
are some situations that you can do something about in order to help stop dog
barking. You can stop dog barking when you exercise your dog. By doing that, the pent-up energy of your dog is
diverted somewhere else – to walking. You may also want to spend time playing, training and walking your dog.
You will see this can contribute a lot to stopping your dog from barking.
A tiring activity will help stop dog barking.
For example, obedience training is a good mental exercise. Dogs need an exciting game so that they will be
stimulated. And when they are, you will be able to stop dog barking. Do not forget to praise and reward your
dog for being good.
If your dog is in the backyard a major part of the time he most probably needs a social exercise.
You might want to walk him around the neighbourhood. This is a way to stop dog barking. Try to socialize your dog
every once in a while. When you are home, let your dog inside the house so that he will feel that he is part of the
family. That is also a way to strengthen the bond between you and your dog. It does not mean that if your backyard
is spacious, your dog will get enough exercise. Although you may think that you see your dog running to and fro but
that is not exercise. You must provide your dog with fun toys so that he will have something that he can chew on or
to occupy himself.
Dogs are a social breed of animal. What they
want are friends and companionship from their human friends. Always make it a point to bring your dog to the
park where he can make doggy friends. Be sure though that your dog is protected and vaccinated. Dogs that play
get tired easily so that when you get home, he will sleep. Then eventually barking will be minimized.
Stop Dog Barking
If the excessive barking of your dog has been there for quite some time and developed into some kind of a habit,
do not expect that after training and doing something for one whole day you will see a change the next day. Since
this has been going on for quite some time, it may take quite a while. You may need weeks of repeating the training
in order to train your dog to stop barking.
